the Olumre Weald
A forest. Here, seasons pass in weeks. Bloom and rot live side by side.
the Forest of Fast Seasons
- Geography
- South of the Arena lies a low, swampy forest. The Olumre Arm is one of the six rivers born from the Arena. Here it splits into thousands of streams. Fields of blossom lie beside bogs of rot. To the south stretches the Pale Belt. It is a pale grey forest, and the plague spreads there. The Stilled also stand waiting there. The Stilled are people caught by the Stillness in the middle of a motion. At the heart of the forest rises the Mother Tree.
- Climate
- Humid, warm and misty. Dem is time in solid form in Devran. Olumre's soil is full of Dem. That is why the seasons pass within weeks.
- Culture
- The Pruners. They believe life must be pruned. Bloom and rot are two faces of one cycle. They do not bury their dead; they plant them. Their villages stand on stilts. Glowing fungi light the villages.
- Governance
- The Root Circle is a council of village healers. There is no king. The council makes its decisions beneath the Mother Tree.
- Faith
- The Cycle. Rot is as sacred as bloom. People believe the Stilled have fallen out of the cycle. Still, their families will not leave them.
- Economy
- Medicine, herbs, poisons, timber and Dem-sap. Dem-sap is a resin that makes plants grow fast. Tavellin buys the most sap. Olumre is also in Tavellin's debt.
